After two uncles, Mengal's two cousins killed by Pakistan military

Pakistan home minister Rehman Malik called the victims "terrorists" and the Baloch Hal webzine reported "mysterious" blasts from the home in Turbat, but local human rights groups said the Pakistan army had bombarded the house of an uncle of a former Balochistan chief minister and razed it to the ground in full view of the public.

The Baloch Human Rights Council of United Kingdom condemned in the strongest terms the brutal act of the Pakistani military in Turbat (Balochistan) on 1st December 2010, a Press release issued from London said.

"In a cowardly action, the army bombarded the house of the Balochistan National Party central committee member Ayub Jan Gichki and killed his two sons Murad JanGichki and Zubair Jan Gichki and three of their friends Asseel Buledi, Majid Hassan Baloch and Hammal Mohammad Baloch in front of hundreds of people and in the presence of local administration who watched helplessly while the house was being bombarded," the statement said.

According to the pro-independence Daily Tawar, the Frontier Corps had raided the house unprovoked.

The BHRC said it believed that the killings were a continuation of the state policy to annihilate or intimidate the Baloch leadership into submission.

The BHRC pointed out that Ayub Gichki is an uncle of the Baloch nationalist Leader and president of the Balochistan National Party, Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal. Mengal, like his father Sardar Ataullah Mengal, was chief minister of Balochistan.

Earlier on August 19, Ayub Jan Gichki's brother-in-law Sardar Nadir Jan Gichki was killed by drug smugglers loyal to the infamous Inter-Services Intelligence. Hassan Gichki, a son of Sardar Nadir Jan Gichki, died in prison and Mengal had accused the Pakistani authorities for the killing.

Aslam Jan Gichki, who was a brother of Ayub Jan Gichki and father-in-law of Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal, was assassinated on the instructions of Pakistani secret agencies on June 9, 2002.

The BHRC statement said in recent months the Pakistani authorities have increased the genocidal actions against the Baloch by killing dozens of Baloch nationalist leaders, students and political activists.

The BHRC said it considers the situation in Balochistan "very grave." Without mentioning the U.S. and Western powers by name, the BHRC said it appleas to all who have influence on Pakistani military-- "the actual ruler of the country" -- to immediately take actions in order to save the lives and dignity of the Baloch in Balochistan.

However, Baloch Hal reported: "The police recovered two Kalashnikovs, one pistol, one 7mm rifle, notable quantity of explosives and detonators from the house which had been almost destroyed by mysterious blasts during the exchange of fire."

The Baloch Hal, run by young journalist Malik Siraj Akbar who is now in Arizona on a State Department fellowship, also cited the Frontier Corps as saying one of the dead was expert in making Improvised Explosive Devices (IED).

But a very close family source in the U.S., speaking on a condition of anonymity, rubbished the Frontier Corps statement that there were explosives in the house. "The FC used heavy mortars and rockets to target the house," he said. He said Murad Jan Gichki was 26 while Zubair Jan Gichki was 22.

He said the family was caught by surprise when they saw non-Baloch intruders trying to break into their home at 3 am in the morning.

The victims father said his sons were killed in cold blood, according to Balochistan Express newspaper.

Rehman Malik, Pakistan's sleazy interior minister who was involved in the Iraqi food-for-oil scheme, congratuled the Frontier Corps over the extra judicial killings. Malik said once the Baloch resistance salutes the Pakistani flag, their demands will be met, "but if they don't understand the language of love, we know what language (terror) to use."

A number of hardcore activists of Mengal's Balochistan National Party have been annihilated by the Pakistan secret services in recent months. Prominent among those killed were Habib Jalib Advocate and Liaquat Mengal.

In the wake of the latest military atrocity, it is still uncertain if Mengal, whose party adheres to parliamentary democracy and who has so far rejected the demands for Balochistan independence as a wishful thinking of Baloch teenagers, would revise his strategy and join the freedom struggle.

The Gichkis once ruled over Mekran and have tied nuptial links with the Baloch elite from all over Balochistan.
