Ali Sher Kurd

The Baloch Hal News

ISLAMABAD: Various left-wing and nationalist organizations gathered today at the National Press Club, Islamabad, to condemn the abduction, torture and subsequent murder of Ali Sher Kurd, a Baloch lawyer, writer and poet. Mr. Kurd was abducted on the evening of 20 September from the home of one of his relatives in Quetta. His body was found three days later in district Khuzdar, with marks of severe torture on various parts of his body.

The protestors chanted slogans against the intelligence agencies who they believe are responsible for the death of Mr. Kurd as well as those of 16 other persons who were abducted and murdered in the last two months alone. The protestors vociferously condemned the continuing series of "˜disappearances' of Baloch people belonging to all walks of life and criticized the role of the military in Balochistan, which instead of providing security to the citizens has only created resentment and mistrust amongst the Baloch people, they said.

Tributes were paid to the scores of Baloch martyrs and "˜missing persons' who have been subjected to the worst forms of state brutality merely for speaking out in defence of the rights and dignity of the Baloch people.

The protest was called by the Baloch Women's Panel, a Quetta-based organization. Various organizations such as Workers Party Pakistan, Baloch Students of Islamabad, National Students Federation, and Insani Haqooq Ittehad participated in the demonstration.
