Four Disappeared Balochs Return Home; Observers Welcome Recovery

The Baloch Hal News

QUETTA: At least four disappeared Baloch persons, belonging to different parts of Balochistan, reached home during the past three days because of what appeared to be unending pressure on the Pakistani government following a landmark hearing of the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs to end atrocities in Balochistan.

The Chairman of Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP), a local organization struggling for safe recovery of missing persons and force disappearances, Nasurllah Baloch, confirmed that four missing persons had reached their homes during the past three days.

He told the Baloch Hal that they had the information that nine Baloch persons were released but they could confirm release of only four persons.

He said that they included Muhammad son of Haji Gul Jan resident of Mand of Kachh district, Muhammad Haneef Baloch, the resident of Mand, Majid Baloch of Buleda and Ali Bohar alias Ali Baba, the resident of coastal town of Pasni. He said that Ali Baba was picked up along with other persons including BSO-Azada leader Ilyas Nazar whose later bullet riddled body was found from Murgha, near Turbat last year.

Mr. Nasurllah said he was in contact with the relatives of all missing persons and alleged that the recovered persons were abducted by government functionaries recently from their hometowns. He said the hundreds of people were still missing. "Government and Judiciary should release all the missing persons. We will not be satisfied until and unless all the Baloch missing persons are released," he added.

He accused security forces of abducting and dumping the bodies of Baloch political opponents. "We, the relatives of missing persons, demand from the government and concerned authorities to take action against security officials who are involved in extrajudicial killings," he said.

Nasrullah Baloch said that the relatives of missing persons would continue their protest until the safe recovery of all missing people.

VBMP also called upon International Humanitarian Organizations to take notice of enforced disappearances and recovery of mutilated and bullet-riddled bodies in Balochistan.

According to VBMP, over eight thousand Baloch political opponents had been listed missing during the past couple of years and the organization had complete details of 1,500 missing persons. "Over 300 bodies have been found dumped in different parts of Balochistan. There must be strict action against the officials involved in these brutal killings," he said, adding that all the relatives want is justice.

Political observers in Balochistan have welcomed the safe recovery of Baloch missing persons and said such moves on the part of government will pave a way to improve the situation of Balochistan and will build up trust. However, the relatives of missing persons also demanded action against those who are killing and dumping the bodies in Balochistan, they are accusing security forces of this "kill and dump' policy.
